Discover what inspired the vortex-like aesthetics of TIMELAPSE
When you think about speed and acceleration, what’s the first thing that comes to mind?
As we brainstormed about how to visually represent the core concepts and guiding principles of this project, we started right from that question.
In fact, we chose not to focus on the technology (virtual reality) or the target audience (oncologic patients) at the center of the project. Instead, we concentrated on its main idea – aptly captured by the title: the accelerated passage of time.
This led us back to the starting question: how do we visually represent such concept?
Suddenly, a popular image popped up in the minds of our millennial team: the iconic roadrunner of a well-known animated cartoon.
The vortex created by its fast-moving legs, in fact, seemed a perfect visual translation of the acceleration of time passage that the project aims to produce during chemotherapy sessions using VR.
That became our starting point — as well as the source of rather comical AI-image generation attempts involving birds!
Through several levels of abstraction and experimentation with various versions of spirals and concentric circles, we stretched, warped, and partially overlapped these shapes to convey a sense of dynamism.
We then simplified the final design by rounding the shape, to make it essential yet impactful.
Finally, we nestled the TIMELAPSE name within the vortex, choosing a simple but subtly futuristic font that would hint at the technological apparatus that we are going to deploy in our project.
TIMELAPSE’s visual signature will appear on all project outputs, and is echoed throughout our website in the images of the night skies shot with long exposure, where the circular patterns of the stars as they trace their paths over time perfectly remind our logo’s vortex while symbolizing the accelerated passage of time at the core or project.
